Back in the day when Microsoft still owned Nokia’s mobile division and made their own phones (remember those days?), the company released a set of phones with a high megapixels and branded them as Nokia PureView smartphones. Now it looks like HMD could have plans to release such smartphones in the future as well as they have recently acquired the trademarks to it.
According to the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), HMD has managed to acquire the rights to the PureView trademark from Microsoft. The trademark originally belonged to Nokia (when Nokia had their own PureView smartphones) before it was transferred to Microsoft when they acquired the company’s mobile business, and now it looks like it belongs to HMD.
Of course exactly what HMD plans to do with the trademark is anyone’s guess, but given that these days cameras on smartphones are becoming a huge part of the buyer’s decision, we’re not surprised if HMD would want to launch a smartphone with a focus on its camera to try and tempt buyers.
We’ve seen how companies are starting to roll out phones with dual cameras as if it were the norm, not to mention companies like Huawei have also pushed the boundaries with the Huawei P20 Pro that came with a triple camera setup.
