OnePlus had earlier said that it would eventually bring Project Treble support to older flagships. It walked the talk when it added the feature in an open beta build for the OnePlus 5 and 5T. The company has now released a stable OxygenOS build for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T that brings Project Treble support to these devices.
Google announced Project Treble last year. It’s an attempt on the company’s part to modularize Android so that updates are rolled out faster. The idea is to reduce the time that OEMs spend updating their devices so that countless Android users across the globe can quickly receive the latest version of Google’s operating system.
OnePlus has released the stable 5.1.5 update of OxygenOS which adds Project Treble support to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. The update itself seems like an incremental release at first glance and the changelog doesn’t even mention that Treble support is now live. It only says that the device has been updated to the latest security patch for the month of August.
However, once the device is updated to the latest version of the firmware, a quick check confirms that it’s now Project Treble supported. This means that the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T will now receive updates faster than they did before and that’s going to make many users very happy.
