Twitter Lite, the lightweight version of the microblogging network’s app, has only been released in a handful of markets since its launch. The app is very useful in markets where most users don’t have high-end smartphones or where mobile data tends to be too costly. Twitter has confirmed that it’s now expanding Twitter Lite to 21 additional countries.

Twitter Lite is a watered down version of the full app and consequently takes up far less space than the main app. The install size of Twitter Lite is around 3MB. It’s actually a progressive web app which is more similar to a mobile website than it is a mobile app.

It offers features like a night mode, bookmarks, push notifications, and more. There are additional PWA features if it’s run on Google Chrome on Android smartphones. Users will be able to get push notifications and they can even add it to their home screen shortcut and app drawer so that it essentially mimics a proper app. Twitter Lite also has the ability to work offline.

Twitter today announced that Twitter Lite is now available in 21 additional countries which include: Argentina, Belarus, Dominican Republic, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Morocco, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Romania, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, Uruguay, Yemen and Zimbabwe.

Those who are in the supported markets and want to use Twitter Lite can download it from the Google Play Store.
