We’ve seen how video games that are translated into movies usually don’t do so well, which is why it looks like Blizzard could be taking a different route with Diablo. In a report from Variety, it seems that a Diablo animated series is being developed over at Netflix. This was actually revealed by Boom! Studios founder Andrew “Andy” Cosby who tweeted (and deleted) that he’s in the “final talks” to write and act as a showrunner for the upcoming series.

There is no official word yet from either Blizzard or Netflix, but we can’t say that we would be surprised if the rumors are true. Blizzard’s Diablo franchise has been kind of dormant for a while now, although to Blizzard’s credit they do put out new patches from time to time to keep the game interesting. There have been rumors of a Diablo 4 and an animated series could rekindle interest in the franchise.

Blizzard had previously stated that they had multiple Diablo projects in the works, so an animated series could be one of them. In the meantime Blizzard has also decided to launch Diablo 3 for the Nintendo Switch which is expected to be made available early November. Granted the game is kind of old, but it will be interesting to see how it handles on the Switch which will support local co-op.
