This isn’t actually the first title to get a cloud-only release on the Nintendo Switch. We have seen this happen before with Resident Evil 7. It has been confirmed that Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey will be released as a cloud game for Nintendo’s console on October 5th, 2018.

The title’s arrival on Switch was confirmed during Nintendo’s Direct presentation. It was also revealed during the presentation that Animal Crossing is headed to the Switch as well, an announcement that has certainly pleased a lot of Switch owners.

The unconventional nature of this release doesn’t end here. It appears that Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey will be released as a cloud game for the Switch only in Japan initially. It’s yet to be confirmed if and when the title will be expanded to Switch users outside Nintendo’s home country. The upcoming Assassin’s Creed game will be widely released on other platforms which include the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
