Dyson, the company best known for its premium appliances, announced last year that it’s going to make an electric car. The company is moving ahead with its plan and has now revealed that it will be setting up the manufacturing plant for its electric car in Singapore. The company announced today that its board members have approved the construction of its first car manufacturing factory in Singapore.
Dyson says that Singapore was chosen as the location for the plant given its proximity to high-growth markets in Asia. The plant is scheduled to be completed in 2020 and the car itself will be launched the following year.
The company had shortlisted several locations and had engaged in discussions with governments before settling on Singapore. It’s not new to manufacturing in the country. It employs 1,00 people three who manufacture electric motors for a variety of other products such as vacuum cleaners.
Dyson’s other manufacturing facilities are located in the Philippines and Malaysia. Despite being a company based in the United Kingdom, it does all of its manufacturing overseas. The electric car is being developed at its research facility in Wiltshire. It will be manufactured at its Singapore plant once the facility is completed and the company starts production.
