At Apple’s event last month where the new iPhones were revealed, Apple did not mention anything about the iPad which left many to speculate that the new devices could be revealed this month. Whether or not that is still set to happen remains to be seen, but it seems that we might have more details about it.

These details are courtesy of the folks at 9to5Mac whose sources have revealed more information about the upcoming tablet refresh. For the most part a lot of the details have been mentioned before, but now it looks like they have been corroborated. This includes how the new iPads will feature edge-to-edge displays and also support Face ID.

However unlike the new iPhones, they will not feature a notch as the bezels are said to be thick enough to house the TrueDepth camera components.  They will also be doing away with the Home button, and that they will also be capable of supporting external 4K displays, thanks to the USB-C port which will see Apple for the first time ever introduce USB-C on an iOS device.

9to5Mac’s sources have also told them that there will be a new version of the Apple Pencil that will be introduced, along with a brand new magnetic connector on the back which will allow it to connect to various accessories. It is also expected that this will replace the Smart Connector located on the side of the current iPads, and because of that it seems that we can also expect to see a new Smart Keyboard accessory as well.

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but if these details are true, then this represents one of the biggest upgrades to the iPad lineup that we have seen in a while.
