One of the brand new features that Apple introduced in iOS 12 comes in the form of Siri Shortcuts. Basically these are actions that have been grouped together so that by speaking a single phrase to Siri, all those commands would be executed at once, kind of like a macro. For those who use Philips Hue smart lighting, it seems that the app now supports Siri Shortcuts.

Philips had promised that support for Siri Shortcuts would be arriving later this year, and now it looks like they have kept their promise. While the Philips Hue app already supports various scenes, the ability to mix and match it with other actions within Siri Shortcuts certainly makes it a lot more flexible.

According to Philips, “We are excited to introduce Siri Shortcuts for Hue. Siri now learns when you are using your favorite scenes and suggests them for quick activation right on your lock screen, Siri search or Siri watch-face. You can also record personal phrases to activate your favorite scenes and include them as actions in the Apple Shortcuts app.”

For example you could create a shortcut in which when you come home and you just want to relax, you can tell that to Siri in which the Hue lights could be adjusted to more comfortable/relaxing tones, while your music player like iTunes or the HomePod could start playing some relaxing tunes. Support for Siri Shortcuts can be found in the latest version of the Hue app, so head on over to the App Store to get your hands on it.
