These days we’re seeing a lot of smartphones adopt the notch in their display and design. This is because a lot of phones are starting to go for edge-to-edge displays with minimal bezels, but due to front-facing cameras, there needs to be a space for the components, thus leading to the notch.
Samsung for the most part has managed to do without the notch with slightly thicker bezels, but it seems that the company is trying to come up with a way that will do away with the notch completely. A tweet from SamsungMobile.News (via PhoneArena) has suggested that Samsung could be working on a way for a selfie camera to be hidden behind the phone’s display but continue to function normally.
However the tweet claims that it is still in the early stages of prototyping and that we might only see them in actual devices in 2020. Of course whether or not that will actually happen remains to be seen, so it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt for now. In the meantime companies such as Oppo have found a way around the notch by making the camera pop out of the phone.
It’s an interesting concept although it does pose a risk as the camera could get damaged or the mechanism get stuck. Either way the notch is expected to stick around for a while so we guess we should just get used to it.
