Apple conducted two hardware events in recent months and yet we didn’t hear anything about new AirPods. Countless reports have suggested that the company will launch the AirPods 2 wireless earbuds before the end of this year. While we haven’t heard anything from Apple about this as yet, a Twitter-based leakster from China suggests that the AirPods 2 will indeed be launched this year.

Model numbers for new AirPods were spotted recently, suggesting that it may not be long now before Apple officially launches this accessory. It’s not clear at this point in time what changes the new model will bring.

Some reports have suggested that the new features could include noise-cancellation, improved water resistance, Bluetooth 5.0 support, and longer battery life. Some of this could make the cut while others could be reserved for the third-generation of AirPods.

Apple is also expected to launch a new wireless charging case with the AirPods 2. This will enable users to charge it wirelessly and will thus be more convenient. What’s also not known at this point in time is whether Apple will continue selling the existing AirPods at a lower price or just discontinue them.

No word as yet on when we can expect Apple to launch its new AirPods. The company remains tightlipped on the matter.
