It was announced in September this year that Amazon Echo Show devices will be able to make voice and video calls with Skype. This would finally allow Echo Show owners to use one of the world’s most popular voice and video calling services to connect with their loved ones. This feature is now available starting today.

Skype’s basic calling functionality will be available across Amazon’s Echo range this week. This means that voice calls will be possible on other Echo devices while the Echo Show and Echo Sport will allow for video calls as well.

The feature is also going to allow users to call mobile and landline numbers using SkypeOut. All they need to do is say “Alexa, call Mary on Skype” and the assistant will take care of the rest to activate a call. They will also be able to accept incoming calls. Answering an incoming call is as simple as saying “Alexa, answer.”

Setting the integration is simple enough. Users have to launch the Alexa app on their mobile device and sign into their Skype account from the Communications section in the Settings menu. Alexa users get 200 free minutes of calls in 34 countries. Those who want more will have to pay for it.
