Puma Bringing Back The Classic 1986 RS-Computer Shoe

Some of you may be old enough to remember the 1986 RS-Computer running shoe from Puma. It was way ahead of its time as the shoe had a computer chip inside the heel to record data like calories, distance, and time. These are things that we can now track with our phones or slim bands around our wrist. However, this was hi-tech at that time. Puma has announced that it’s re-releasing this shoe in a limited run.

Customers could connect the shoe to any Apple IIE, Commodore 64, or IBM PC using a 16 pin connector to view the data. A program would show the simple workout data collected by the shoe.

Puma is bringing back the 1986 RS-Computer but you no longer need a computer from the ’80s to access the data. It’s getting a modern tech package which includes a three axis accelerometer, a USB port for charging, LED indicators, and Bluetooth for wirelessly transferring data to a smartphone.

It will be difficult to get your hands on this shoe as Puma will only be making 86 of them and each will be individually numbered. The pairs will be sold at Puma stores in London, Tokyo, and Berlin aside from KITH retailers starting December 13th. No word as yet on how much they’re going to cost.
