Recently Verizon announced that they were working with Samsung to bring a 5G smartphone to the market in the first half of 2019. For a while it seemed almost like an exclusive, but later AT&T announced that they were also working with Samsung to bring a 5G smartphone to the market.Now it looks like Sprint has announced that they too are working with Samsung. This is according to Sprint’s VP of product engineering and development, Ryan Sullivan, who was in attendance at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit where he was quoted as saying, “We’re one of Samsung’s biggest customers. You better believe we’re working with them as well.”
It is unclear if these devices are all the same, like how the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 are available across all the major carriers, or if each carrier will be getting a different phone. However what we have been hearing is that Samsung could be working on a variant of the Galaxy S10 that will support 5G, while the “regular” models won’t.
Needless to say that these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll have more details come 2019. In the meantime it looks like T-Mobile is the only major carrier that has yet to confirm that they’re working with Samsung on a 5G smartphone, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the carrier were to announce something soon.
