For the longest time ever, Apple was known for their iPods where it managed to earn the company a lot of money. In recent times ever since Apple introduced the iPhone, the need to carry around a separate media player diminished to the point where Apple removed mentions of the iPod on its website.

This isn’t to say that they no longer sell the iPod, they still carry the iPod touch 6th gen on its website, but apparently we can look forward to a 7th gen. This is according to a report from Japanese blog Macotakara in which they report that during CES 2019, they were told by several suppliers that Apple could be looking to revive the iPod touch and that a 7th gen model might be in development.

There is no word on when this alleged device will be announced, nor what kind of features we can expect. Like we said, the iPhone has pretty much eliminated all need for an iPod. It can play music, watch videos, play games, make phone calls and send messages. The only advantage we see an iPod having is that it has its own battery so users won’t need to draw from the iPhone’s battery in order to listen to music or watch videos.

While Macotakara has had a pretty decent track record for leaks and rumors, we have to say that we are skeptical about this latest piece of news, so until we see it for ourselves, do take it with a grain of salt.
