According to recent rumors, Canon has a new EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera in the works that could be a budget model. It turns out the rumors were right on the money because Canon has since officially announced the EOS RP, the company’s next attempt at a full-frame mirrorless camera that won’t break the bank.
For those unfamiliar, Canon announced their first full-frame mirrorless camera back in 2018. However there was always something “missing” from the announcement, and it turns out that the EOS R represented a mid-range full-frame camera, and now the EOS RP is the budget version, which means that there could be one more high-end camera in the works.
That being said, the EOS RP will feature a 26.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and will be powered by Canon’s DIGIC 8 image processor. It will also feature dual pixel CMOS AF, a built-in EVF with 2.36 million dots, and also a touchscreen display with support for touch and drag AF. There is also built-in WiFi and Bluetooth for wireless image transfer and remote control.
It is a basic camera that should be good enough to get the job done. If you’re after a full-frame mirrorless camera that won’t cost too much, this could be it. The EOS RP is priced at $1,299 for the body-only and will sold with a lens kit with the RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens for $2,399.
