One of the rumored features of the LG G8 is that it could use a sound-on display. It turns out that the rumors are right because LG has since announced the feature on its website ahead of the official unveiling. This seems to be in line with what LG has been doing, where they slowly tease features before the full reveal.

Dubbed Crystal Sound OLED, according to LG, “Developed in-house by LG, CSO repurposes the OLED display as a diaphragm, vibrating the entire surface to produce sound with impressive volume. And because LG’s unique technology takes advantage of the entire display, CSO also improves clarity, making voices easier to discern and subtle musical notes more noticeable.”

LG claims that by using a sound-on display, it will be able to produce more subtle notes, improve clarity, and make voices easier to discern compared to regular smartphone features. It sounds like an interesting feature, but whether or not it will live up to the company’s claims remains to be seen.

So far leaked renders of the LG G8 ThinQ have been a bit disappointing namely because in terms of design, the handset is rather boring and typical. The sound-on display is probably the most interesting feature that we’ve heard about the phone so far, but remember to check back with us in the coming weeks for the details and to see how well the Crystal Sound OLED holds up in real life.
