Last year IKEA announced that they would be teaming up with Sonos to create a set of smart speakers. IKEA had previously dabbled in Bluetooth speakers, but this would mark the first time the company would be launching a set of smart speakers, and the good news is that we might be able to get a glimpse of it next month.

The company has announced that together with Sonos, they will be unveiled their SYMFONISK speaker at the FEEL HOME event in Milan in April. According to Björn Block, Business Leader for IKEA Home Smart at IKEA of Sweden, “Together with Sonos we wanted to combine our home furnishing knowledge with their expertise in creating great sound experiences for every room of the home, and in Milan we want you to experience the real difference that sound and light makes in your life.”

Details on the speaker are scarce at the moment, but the company is expected to launch a version that is a bookshelf style speaker, and another that will be a wall-mounted version. Given that the collaboration is with Sonos, there is a good chance that we will be able to expect some kind of streaming feature as well, but whether it will have other smart speaker features like the Amazon Echo, Google Home, or HomePod remains to be seen.

The company is also expected to release these speakers later this year in August where hopefully they will be affordable given IKEA’s approach to pricing.
