Xiaomi had confirmed that it would be unveiling its new gaming smartphone on March 18th and the company has done just that today. The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 handset is official today. The number here doesn’t hide the fact that this is the successor to Xiaomi’s original Black Shark smartphone.

As expected, the Black Shark 2 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 mobile platform coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. There’s also a 12GB RAM and 256GB storage option. It’s important to ensure that the handset runs cool during intense gaming sessions so this handset has been fitted with something that Xiaomi is calling the world’s first “direct touch multilayer liquid cooling system.” Xiaomi claims that this system helps keep the CPU 14 degrees cooler.

Other specs include a 6.39 inch AMOLED display with 1080×2340 pixel resolution, a 4,000mAh battery, and a 20 megapixel f/2.0 front camera. There’s also a 12 megapixel f/1.7 and 12 megapixel f/2.2 dual camera system with 2x optical zoom at the back. In keeping with the 2019 trend, Xiaomi has also thrown in an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Xiaomi will be offering the device in Shadow Black and Frozen Silver colors in China initially. Pricing and availability information has not yet been revealed.
