Intel may have launched the 8-core 9900K last year but the lineup was missing all of its lower-end chips. The company has finally rectified that today by unveiling the entire 9th Gen Core processor series. These include all the desktop and mobile 45W CPUs.
The 9th Generation Core desktop processors from Intel are a direct refresh of its 9th generation Coffee Lake hardware. There are some improvements such as a better thermal interface on the high-end models, with support for up to 8 cores, and newer chipsets that have integrated USB 3.1 Gen2 and CNVI-enabled Wi-Fi.
This is the fifth use of Intel’s 14nm fabrication process for the H-series lineup. This is the third time that chips have been made on the 14nm++ version of the same process. Intel is pitching its new chips for both gamers and creators with features like DDR4 RAM support, data acceleration when paired with Intel Optane memory, and more. The entire suite of the 9th Generation CPUs feature the same 45W TDP.
The company adds that its new line of H-series chips provides a 33 percent overall increase in performance compared to chips from three years ago. The chips should thus offer better refresh rates and load times for games in addition to faster processing for 4K video. Intel has also added new models to its Core lineup for desktop which includes models from the Core i9 down to low-end Pentium Gold and Celeron processors. The first notebooks with the new Core i5, i7, and i9 chips have been announced today by OEMs like Lenovo, Razer, and ASUS.
