One of the appealing aspects of Netflix compared to regular TV channels is that you get to choose what to watch and when to watch. However, perhaps in a bid to encourage users to discover new content and episodes they might have missed, it seems that Netflix is testing out the ability for users to watch episodes at random.

This change was reported by Android Police who found that in the Android version of the app, Netflix was allowing users to watch episodes of shows at random. This isn’t a random choice of a show, but rather a random episode within a show that you’ve chosen. To be honest, we’re not sure what the point is.

In fact, playing shows at random might be a good way for users to find new shows that they have missed, but perhaps if this is your tenth time rewatching the entire season of Friends, maybe playing episodes at random could be useful if you’d rather not watch it in sequential order.

It is unclear if Netflix plans on keeping this feature around for good or if they’re simply trying it out and getting user feedback, but in the meantime, what do you think? Is this random play feature something you might be interested in?
