Apple isn’t due to unveil its new iPhones until the fall at the very least but that doesn’t mean there’s no speculation about the handsets already. There’s a steady trickle of information from the rumor mill and the supply chain about the changes that Apple may introduce with this year’s models. The camera is an important area of focus for Apple and it may improve it this year with the addition of an ultra-wide lens.
This won’t really be groundbreaking stuff. There are plenty of Android smartphones with an ultra-wide lens on the market already. Samsung is even offering it on its mid-range smartphones now. So it’s about time that Apple provided this flexibility to iPhone owners.
Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max successors will feature a triple camera system at the back. It’s also said that the new iPhones will have a 12 megapixel ultra-wide lens in addition to the primary sensor and the 2x camera.
Kuo also thinks that Apple is going to use a special coating on the camera bump to hide the lenses. The iPhone XR successor is expected to feature a dual camera, the jury’s still out on whether that’s going to be the 2x or the ultra-wide.
