The reports about a smaller, cheaper Nintendo Switch continue to come in. A new one suggests that the company is going to release this iteration of its popular Switch console by the fall this year. Nintendo is reportedly working on a more powerful version of the Switch as well.
Japan’s Nikkei reports that the smaller Nintendo Switch will primarily focus on enabling better portable play for owners. However, it won’t lose the ability to be docked to a TV like the original Nintendo Switch.
Earlier reports have suggested that the cheaper model won’t have detachable Joy-Con controllers. It may thus be more of a successor to the 3DS. The vibration feature may be omitted as well. There’s no word as yet on the pricing for this device.
That may not be the only piece of new Switch hardware that Nintendo has in the pipeline. The report mentions that a more powerful, “next-generation,” version of the Switch is also being developed. It’s said to feature a major redesign as well. The company isn’t expected to launch this particular Switch model until later, possibly next year.
Nintendo has been tight-lipped about its future hardware plans for now so it’s unclear at this point in time precisely when the company will be making these announcements.
