T-Mobile has in the past attempted to merge with other carriers such as AT&T, but that did not work out so well. In the past year or so, the company has been attempting to merge again, but this time with Sprint where it feels like the merger could actually happen. However, it looks like the merger has since hit a roadblock.According to sources of The Wall Street Journal, it seems that the Department of Justice isn’t too happy with the current proposed deal. While they have not outright denied the merger, it appears that the way the current deal is structured might not fly unless some changes are made. The FCC had also previously raised some questions about the so-called savings and plans for wireless home broadband that the merger could bring to customers.
T-Mobile’s CEO John Legere has since refuted the report in which he tweeted, “The premise of this story, as summarized in the first paragraph, is simply untrue. Out of respect for the process, we have no further comment. This continues to be our policy since we announced our merger last year.”
It is unclear as to what both carriers plan to do now that they might have run into this roadblock. The initial plan was to complete the merger by April, but that has since been pushed to July. Worst case scenario, plans to merge might be scrapped entirely, which we have seen in the past.
