GoPro has long been the gold standard for action cameras. It tried to encroach on DJI’s domain with a drone but that didn’t really work out and GoPro gave up on its drone ambitions. It’s DJI’s turn now to shake things up a bit. The recent leaks were accurate, the company today unveiled its new Osmo Action camera. It has been developed to compete with GoPro’s Hero line.

The DJI Osmo Action camera features a 1/2.3 inch sensor that can capture 4K HDR video as well as 12 megapixel photos. It can record 4K at 60 frames per second and 4K HDR video at 30 frames per second. There’s also electronic image stabilization. It’s protected in a shell that’s shockproof up to 5 feet and waterproof down to 36 feet. There’s also going to be an external housing which will let you take the camera even deeper underwater.

There’s a main 2.25 inch touchscreen display at the back in addition to a 1.4 inch display on the front. Clearly, this product has been developed with vloggers in mind. There’s also a Quick Switch physical button which lets you easily toggle between the modes like slow-motion, time-lapse, and picture.

Interested customers can place an order for the DJI Osmo Action starting today from the company’s website. DJI’s first rugged action camera costs $349.
