It has been a while since Essential launched a new smartphone. There were rumors that perhaps we may never get to see one from the company again. That notion has seemingly been dispelled by the founder and CEO of Essential, Andy Rubin. He has tweeted out what can only be described as an acknowledgment that there’s going to be a new product announcement soon.

What’s interesting is that Rubin’s acknowledgment came as a reply to an almost nine-month-old tweet which was encouraging the company to launch a new smartphone. “We’ll make an announcement,” Rubin replied, telling the person to “Hang tight” in the meantime.

There’s nothing else to go on here other than Rubin’s tweet so it’s unclear at this point in time what Essential has been working on. There have been no rumors and reports about a new Essential phone in quite some time.

Nevertheless, Rubin’s comments suggest that the company has indeed been working on something and that it may make an announcement sooner rather than later. Whether it’s going to be a new flagship or an affordable device that’s competitively priced remains to be seen. Hopefully, it won’t be long now before Essential makes some sort of an announcement regarding this.
