Google is due to launch its flagship smartphone for the year and it’s going to be a few months since it officially unveils the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. The first render of what’s claimed to be the Pixel 4 has now surfaced online. The biggest change which immediately jumps out is the presence of what appears to be a multi-camera system at the back.

Google has stuck with the single-camera system on its Pixel smartphones even as the industry moved to triple and even quad camera systems for the rear shooter. The company combined its camera with top-notch software to deliver impressive results. However, it may have reached a point where the benefits of multi-camera systems and what they enable can no longer be ignored.

Speaking of the rear, there also doesn’t appear to be a fingerprint scanner at the back. This would suggest that either the Pixel 4 will have an in-display fingerprint sensor or an advanced biometric security system based on facial recognition. Google did include references to face authentication in the latest Android Q beta so there might be something here.

The front-facing stereo speakers appear to be missing as well. They may have been replaced with an upper earpiece speaker and a bottom speaker for the stereo effect, the kind you’d get on the Galaxy S10, for example. Google might have made this decision to free up more space for an increased screen-to-body-ratio.

We can expect additional renders of the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL to surface in the coming weeks. If this is anything to go by, the upcoming flagship will introduce some major design changes.
