Fortnite is one of the most popular games at the moment and it is a huge money maker for Epic. However, it seems that had one former Epic director had his way, Fortnite would have been cancelled and it would never have been made a reality. This is according to an interview with Game Informer where former Epic director Rod Fergusson talked about his time at the company.

According to Fergusson, “If I stayed at Epic, I would have cancelled Fortnite,” Fergusson said. “Before I left, I tried to cancel Fortnite. When it was Save the World… that was a project that had some challenges. And as the director of production at the time, that game would not have passed my bar for something we should continue to keep going…”

He also seems to have taken it all in good stride because Fergusson does not seem to be too upset that he left before Fortnite’s success. “So when people look at me and say ‘don’t you feel bad [that he left before Fortnite’s stratospheric success]?’ I say no, you should feel really good, because that game you love – that worldwide sensation – would not exist had I stayed at Epic.”

Fortnite has since pretty much found its way onto every platform out there, where it can be played on the computer, consoles, and mobile. It was also credited in part in convincing Sony to allow cross-platform play.
