If you were looking forward to playing Pokemon Sword and Shield and were hoping to transfer your existing Pokemon over to the game, you might be disappointed to learn that you actually might not be able to do so, or at least not all of your Pokemon can be transferred over to the new game.

At this point in time, there are over 800 types of Pokemon, but unfortunately, not all of them can be brought over to the new game. Speaking during Nintendo’s Treehouse Live presentation at E3 2019, the game’s producer Junichi Masuda revealed that only Pokemon from the Galar region Pokedex can be imported into the game.

It is actually an interesting explanation because according to Masuda, it seems that this was a balance between keeping the game itself balanced, while also working around hardware limitations, and also ensuring that they are able to keep to the game’s deadline instead of spending their time on rendering all the Pokemon to get it up to par with the game’s new graphics.

It is a pity for gamers who might have spent years building up their Pokedex, only to find out that they won’t be able to fully utilize it. Masuda also did not mention exactly how many Pokemon will appear in the Galar region Pokedex, so we’ll have to wait and see. Pokemon Sword and Shield is currently set for a release on the 15th of November, 2019.
