If you’re someone who keeps multiple tabs open in Safari on their iPhone or iPad, sometimes you might accidentally open the same website twice. It’s not necessarily a big deal, but it can be a waste of time if you already have the website open in another tab. However, iOS 13 will come with some quality of life improvements that should change that.
According to Cult of Mac, they have discovered that in iOS 13, Safari will prevent users from opening another tab with the same website if it detects that you already have the website open. This isn’t to say that users won’t be able to open new tabs if they want to, but as you can see in the screenshot, it will suggest that users switch to the tab that already has the website open.
This will come in handy if you’re on a limited data plan like when you’re traveling overseas and you’re trying to avoid wasting data, although this is assuming that the website doesn’t refresh when you open the tab. What happens when users tap on the link it will simply bring them to that tab instead.
While Safari already allows users to search open tabs, this could still be useful for those who are unaware of that feature or might be absentminded.
