Here’s something that not many Marvel fans were expecting. Marvel confirmed at the San Diego Comic-Con that it’s rebooting Blade and also announced that Mahershala Ali of True Detective fame will be starring in this reboot. Many Marvel fans would be aware that Blade was one of the first superheroes from the repertoire to become a hit on film.

This character first appeared in the comics back in 1973 with The Tomb of Dracula #10. Eric Brookes, who later becomes known as Blade, turns to hunting vampires after saving a man from vampires. The rest, as they say, is history.

The original Blade movie was released back in 1998 with Wesley Snipes in the lead as the vampire hunter. He later reprised his role in 2002 for Blade II and 2004 for Blade: Trinity. The rights to this character were reacquired by Marvel in 2013 in addition to the Punisher and Ghost Rider.

No further details have been revealed by Marvel at this point in time about its Marvel reboot. It’s not even known if it’s going to come back as a film or a series for Disney+, the company’s standalone content streaming service. It has only said that Mahershala Ali will be starring in the movie.
