For a few years now, there have been talks that a new Matrix movie could be in the works, where the latest report came in June suggesting that the fourth Matrix movie could be a reboot where Michael B. Jordan would be cast as Neo. It turns out that part of the report was right because Warner Bros. Pictures has confirmed that there will be a fourth Matrix movie.

However, it seems that instead of Jordan taking up the role of Neo, it looks like actors Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will be returning to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity respectively. The movie is also expected to be written and directed by Lana Wachowski, one half of the Wachowski sisters who were the original directors of the original Matrix trilogy.

According to Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich, “We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana. Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

Plot details are unclear at this point in time, and there was also no mention of whether or not Laurence Fishburne will be coming back as Morpheus, so it will be interesting to see how they handle that character and if he might be recast. Production of the film is expected to begin in 2020, so don’t expect to see it anytime soon.
