A couple of years ago, the developers of Minecraft announced their plans to upgrade the graphics of the game through a software update. Unfortunately, last week Mojang announced that due to the technical hurdles involved, they would not be able to release the update, which we’re sure is a bit of a bummer for fans of the game.

However, the good news is that it looks like Minecraft will still be getting a visual upgrade, at least that’s if you’re the owner of an NVIDIA RTX GPU. This announcement was made in an announcement at Gamescom by Microsoft and NVIDIA, in which this will be a free upgrade that Minecraft gamers on the PC will be able to expect.

Announcement to the announcement by Saxs Persson, head creative director for Minecraft, “Ray tracing sits at the center of what we think is next for Minecraft. GeForce RTX gives the Minecraft world a brand-new feel to it. In normal Minecraft, a block of gold just appears yellow, but with ray tracing turned on, you really get to see the specular highlight, you get to see the reflection, you can even see a mob reflected in it.”

We have to say that the differences made is like night and day. It is a pity that it will only be available to NVIDIA RTX GPU owners, but we suppose it’s still better than nothing.
