We recently reported about the potential launch of Facebook’s ‘Portal’ TV streaming device. Now, it has just been a day and here it is. Facebook revealed the details on the new ‘Portal’ family of devices that include a Portal Mini, the original Portal, and the new Portal TV.
The Portal family lineup is going to be available for in the US and Canda. Also, it is coming to the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand – which is good news.
Let us take a look at what the new ‘Portal’ family of devices have to offer (especially the Portal TV).
Portal Mini sports an 8-inch display while the Portal features a 10-inch screen for video calls, checking out photos, and watching videos. It is actually a good pick if you are into video calling and staying connected.
The adaptive display adjusts the brightness and color as per your surroundings. In contrast, Portal TV is just like a set-up box. Portal’s AI-powered Smart Camera intelligently pans and zooms to stay with the action so you can move and talk freely while always being in the frame. Similar to the ‘Portal’ device, Portal TV also incorporates the smart camera.
You get to turn off the camera and the microphone when you want – for privacy reasons. In addition to this, Facebook claims that the smart camera and the smart sound tech runs locally without connecting to Facebook servers. It will also let you start a WhatsApp call from any Portal device.
When you are not on a call, it acts like a digital photo frame where you showcase reminders, photos, and videos. Along with Alexa integration, it will also support Amazon Prime Video as well.
The Portal Mini will cost you $129 whereas the Portal will be $179. If you want Portal TV, it would cost you $149. It is up for pre-orders in the US, Canada, and Europe. You can check out the products at Facebook’s Portal webpage.
