Last month, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi launched a new TV. It came in the form of a 70-inch 4K smart TV which was priced roughly around the $500 mark. Given that we’ve seen smaller TVs from other brands priced much higher, it’s not surprising that the TV has since become quite a hit.

According to apparent official reports, it turns out that the Redmi TV sold like hotcakes where it managed to sell over 10,000 units in just 15 minutes! This is very impressive when you consider the fact that this would make it Redmi’s first TV. Xiaomi themselves have launched TVs in the past, but this would be a first for the Redmi brand, and it seems to be pretty well-received.

Presumably its success has to do with its price, where like we said, at around $500, you would be hard pressed to find 70-inch 4K TVs from other brands. As to how well it looks and performs, we can’t say with any certainty, but we reckon it should still be good enough to get the job done without any frills.

At the moment, the Redmi TV is only available in China and there is no word on whether it will eventually find its way to more markets in the future. However, if an affordable TV is something you might be interested in, OnePlus could have something in the pipeline that could be announced soon.
