For a while now, we have been hearing rumors and have also been treated to leaks that Sonos could be getting ready to launch their first Bluetooth speaker. Previously, the company’s speakers did offer support for wireless connectivity but it was through WiFi, meaning that they weren’t exactly ideal for portable use.

For those who love the Sonos brand and wouldn’t mind a set of portable speakers from the company, you’ll be pleased to learn that the Sonos Move has been officially announced. This is a portable speaker in the truest sense of the word, where the company has built it so that it has an IP56 rating, meaning that taking it out with you to the pool or to the beach should not damage the speaker.

You can get it dirty and give it a quick rinse and it should still continue to operate. Sonos has also built it so that it can within falls and bumps, although we guess you probably should be careful all the same. In terms of battery life, the Sonos Move will offer 10 hours of continuous playback and up to 120 hours of standby time.

According to Patrick Spence, CEO, Sonos, “Move takes freedom of choice to the next level. For the first time, you can take Sonos anywhere. Move marks the beginning of a new era for Sonos—one where brilliant sound not only fills your home, but extends to every part of your day.” The Sonos Move doesn’t exactly come cheap with an asking price of $399, but if you’re interested, you can pre-order the speakers from the company’s website.
