No one really knows what the future of transportation holds. Right now, many seem to be betting on electric and autonomous vehicles, where not only are they expected to be more energy efficient and better for the environment, but they will also be safer. However, while other companies seem to be building autonomous electric cars, Porsche and Boeing are eyeing the skies.In an announcement by both companies, it seems that Porsche and Boeing will be teaming up to develop an electric flying car and to explore the aspects of urban air mobility. This means that they won’t just be focusing on creating cars that can fly, but they will be exploring the idea and concepts of what a world might be like with flying vehicles in them, and if it is a feasible one.
According to Steve Nordlund, Vice President and General Manager Boeing NeXt, “This collaboration builds on our efforts to develop a safe and efficient new mobility ecosystem, and provides an opportunity to investigate the development of a premium urban air mobility vehicle with a leading automotive brand.”
We’re not sure what kind of fruits this partnership will yield, but it will be interesting to see. In the meantime, Porsche and Boeing are alone in exploring this concept. Hyundai also seems to be interested, where their latest hire for their flying car division is a former NASA engineer.
