Ai.type was a pretty popular 3rd party keyboard app for Android available on the Play Store. However, it was removed from the Play Store after security reports of displaying invisible advertisements and requiring unnecessary permissions.

It is worth noting that it was an app on the Android marketplace with more than 40 million downloads. It wasn’t so popular at the App Store, but it was also available for iOS devices.

Now, the question is – why are we reporting on this if the app is no longer at the Play Store?

The shocking reason is that millions of devices still tend to continue using the app. It is highly possible that they are not aware of the shady techniques used by ai.type app.

While invisible advertisements might seem harmless, signing up for unauthorized purchases for premium content alarming. Upstream Secure-D mobile security platform uncovered the finding in their recent report.

In the report, they have clearly mentioned that even though the emoji keyboard app (ai.type) is no longer at the Play Store, it is still active on millions of devices. This is definitely something to be aware of and make others aware if you think someone might still be using it.

You can simply share our coverage to prevent more users from using ai.type keyboard. Also, if you find the .APK file available, we advise you not to install it.
