One of the selling points of the iPad Pro is the Smart Keyboard accessory that is sold as an optional purchase. It is a pretty popular choice due to the fact that it works seamlessly with the tablet, although there have been many reviews that basically say that there is still a lot to be desired in terms of the overall feel.

That being said, a report from DigiTimes could be giving us a bit of hope on that front. The report claims that for the 2020 iPads, Apple could also be releasing a new Smart Keyboard that will offer up backlit keys, but will also adopt the new scissor switch mechanism that Apple introduced to its 16-inch MacBook Pro back in 2019.

This is an interesting rumor as it would in theory make the keyboard a lot more pleasant to type on, and also potentially longer lasting. However, we should note that DigiTimes’ report does contradict an earlier report from notable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who claims that Apple will continue using a rubber dome design for its Smart Keyboard well into 2021.

With Kuo’s predictions being generally more accurate than DigiTimes, it’s probably best to take this with a grain of salt for now. However, if you’re still considering a keyboard accessory for your iPad Pro, there are plenty of other third-party options that might be worth taking a look at.
