Normally, for an iOS device, you do not get to change the default apps to any other services than that of Apple.

For instance, the default browser is Safari and you cannot change it to Google Chrome.

It has been this way and it is currently the way how it works. However, as per a recent report by Bloomberg, you might be able to switch apps for your default browsers, music players, and mail app.

Primarily, this is good news for the users who wanted to use alternatives to services such as Chrome, Gmail, or any other music app.

In addition to the users, it also gives a fair opportunity for other services to get a chance to prove as a better alternative to Apple’s own existing software/services.

As of now, no further information on this potential change exists. Apple may plan to roll out the feature later this year or it may end up not rolling it out. So, take that pinch of salt.

With this move by Apple, they plan to allow third-party services to compete for real. Not just a fair competition and availability of options but it is highly useful for the iOS users as well.

You might get this update with iOS 14 or any other upcoming iOS release in the near future.
