One of the features of Tesla’s cars is its Autopilot feature, which the company has insisted is not a self-driving feature. However, it does more or less function like a self-driving car, where it can detect obstacles, make turns, and also speed up or slow down. However, there have been some wondering about the latter feature.

Did Tesla use GPS in order to figure out the speed limits of a particular road, or was there another way the company managed to figure out the speed limits? Regardless, it seems that Tesla has started pushing out a new feature to its cars where in the latest update to their cars, it looks like Tesla’s vehicles will now be able to visually detect speed limit signs.

According to the update’s changelog, “Speed Assist now leverages your car’s cameras to detect speed limit signs to improve the accuracy of speed limit data on local roads. Detected speed limit signs will be displayed in the driving visualization and used to set the associated Speed Limit Warning.”

This will be pretty useful because sometimes there might be roadworks or makeshift signs, so by being able to detect them, it will allow the car to make adjustments on the fly. The update should already be rolling out so if you own a Tesla, you’ll want to check for the latest update.
