iOS 14 was made available to download last week. One of the new features of iOS is the ability to allow users to choose which apps they want to use as their default app, like browsers or email clients. For those who have been looking forward to the feature, you’ll be pleased that Google has finally updated its Gmail app to take advantage of that.
According to a tweet by the Gmail Twitter account, the company has announced that its app has been updated and users can now set the Gmail app on iOS as the default mail client. This means that whenever you click an email link on a website or in an app, it will now open Gmail (assuming you have it installed) instead of the default iOS Mail app.
Note that Microsoft’s Outlook app had previously been updated to support the feature as well, but now it looks like users have an alternative with Gmail. Apple’s decision to release iOS 14 so suddenly has not gone well with developers. This has resulted in some developers not getting enough time to get their apps ready and compatible with iOS 14.

In some cases, certain apps have broken due to incompatibility issues, leaving users frustrated. We’re not sure what’s with the sudden release, but if you’re running into problems, give it a few days or a couple of weeks and we expect that most apps should be updated to support iOS 14 by then.
