iPhone 12 Pro’s A14 Chipset Shows Massive Improvements Over The A13

Obviously with every iPhone upgrade, we expect that performance will improve over its predecessor. With the iPhone 12, Apple has equipped it with the A14 Bionic chipset that many expect will also make an appearance in the company’s Apple Silicon powered Mac computers, so the question is, is the iPhone 12 potentially as powerful as a laptop or desktop?

According to a recent sighting on GeekBench 5, the iPhone 12 Pro has made an appearance where it appears that it has improved on performance over the iPhone 11 Pro rather considerably. The iPhone 12 Pro scored 1,597 and 4,152 in terms of single and more-core scores respectively. This is versus the iPhone 11 Pro which scored 1,329 and 3,468 respectively.

The gains in single-core performance isn’t as big compared to multi-core, but it is still a welcome improvement anyway. That being said, we are hearing slightly conflicting reports. While these are the alleged scores on GeekBench 5, a sighting on AnTuTu has suggested that the A14 might be trailing behind the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+.

This is odd because on GeekBench 5, the iPhone 12 Pro sits above the ASUS ROG Phone 3 which uses the Snapdragon 865+ and also leads by a considerable margin. We’re not sure why we’re seeing different numbers, but perhaps we’ll have to wait for the phone to be released before we can look forward to some real-world testing.
