One of the things a lot of subscription services tend to offer is a free trial period, whether it be for a week, two weeks, a month, and so on. Given that the company wants you to commit to them, naturally they would let you take the service for a spin first. However, it seems that Netflix is done with that.

According to the TV Answer Man’s Phil Swann, it seems that Netflix will no longer be offering new customers a free trial. In fact, Netflix’s help center page has also mentioned that free trials are not available. It is unclear when the company had put this into effect, but it essentially means that those who have yet to subscribe will not be able to try the service out before deciding whether or not to subscribe.

We also have no idea why Netflix has ended its free trial program given how long it’s been available, but it has been speculated that perhaps it was being abused. As TNW points out,  it is easy to create a burner email and enjoy a month’s worth of free content, repeat the process, and keep doing it for as long as you want to.

This means that there are people who might be abusing the system in such a way that Netflix has decided that they’ve had enough. That being said, if you’re legitimately wondering if you should subscribe to Netflix, you could always opt to try the service on the cheapest plan possible, and if you don’t like it, you’re out just a couple of bucks.
