Following the success of TikTok, it didn’t really come as a surprise to learn that many other companies were looking to emulate that success with platforms of their own, especially with the possibility that TikTok could be banned in the US which would leave a void that other companies would be more than eager to fill.

This is why we can’t say we’re too surprised to learn that Snapchat has decided to wade in with their own platform called Spotlight. The idea behind Spotlight is similar to TikTok, where users can upload fun and silly videos that might not otherwise be part of their regular uploads, kind of like having TikTok built into the app itself.

While Snapchat is not the first to launch its own TikTok alternative, the company is hoping to draw creators in by announcing a fund of $1 million that they will be dividing up amongst the most p popular creators on the app per day through the end of 2020, which means that if you hurry and come up with some fun and viral content, it could nab you a larger slice of that $1 million pie.

Like we said, Snapchat is not the first and we’ve seen Instagram launch their own take called Reels, but whether or not it will be enticing enough to draw creators away from TikTok remains to be seen. As it stands, TikTok is still very much usable in the US as the ban on the app has been delayed. We’re not sure if there are plans to go ahead and ban the app outright given that a new administration will be coming into power in 2021, so for now, it might not hurt creators to seek out alternatives.
