bmw x5 protectionIn the recent years, we’ve started to see a shift in the trends where more companies are turning towards subscription-based services. We’ve already seen this with movies and TV shows, music, and we’ve also seen it extend to software, so it didn’t come as a surprise to learn that carmakers were also doing it.

However, it seems that maybe a car subscription service wasn’t necessarily the best of ideas, so much so that a report from Autoblog has revealed that BMW and Audi have both ended their respective car subscription services. Both companies have declined to mention why that might be the case, but it’s not that hard to figure out why.

Mercedes-Benz had previously launched a similar service, but they later shut it down citing mediocre demand. There were also customer complaints about the hassle of having to move personal items from one car to another constantly. We wouldn’t be surprised if those could have been some of the reasons why BMW and Audi shuttered their programs as well.

That being said, there are still some companies who are forging ahead with their plans, such as Volvo where its Volvo Care service is still ongoing. There is also Cadillac who could be looking to relaunch its Book service with car dealerships, but we’ll have to wait and see how well these programs fare.
