If you like the concept of cryptocurrency and maybe have some of your own that you wish to spend instead of cash, then you might be interested to learn that Apple Pay will now support bitcoin, although not exactly directly. This is thanks to BitPay which is a digital wallet that can also be used with Apple Pay and the Apple Wallet app.

According to BitPay CEO Stephen Pair, “We have thousands of BitPay Wallet app customers using the BitPay Card who are always looking for new places and ways to spend their crypto. Adding Apple Pay and soon Google and Samsung Pay makes it easy and convenient to use the BitPay Card in more places from day-to-day items to luxury purchases.”

While the future is still a bit uncertain on cryptocurrency, even though it is being highly-traded, the option of being able to pay with bitcoin is good news for those who want an alternative to using cash. Also, it might be a good way for users who hold cryptocurrency to at least take advantage of it and spend using it instead of hoarding it.

Whether or not we will ever see a future where Apple fully embraces cryptocurrency is unclear, although an analyst did suggest that maybe creating their own cryptocurrency is something that Apple should look into for the future.
