Earlier last week, it was reported that Sony could be looking to shut down the stores for its PS3, PS Vita, and PSP consoles. Given how old those consoles are and with Sony already focusing their efforts and resources into the PS5, the report didn’t really come as that big of a surprise, but for those wondering if it’s true, yes, it is.

This is according to a post on Sony’s support page in which they confirm that the stores for the PS3, PS Vita, and the PSP will be shutting down on starting on the 2nd of July. The initial shut down will apply to the PS3 and PSP, while the PS Vita’s store will be closing on the 27th of August, giving it almost two months extra time.

So what does this closure mean for gamers who purchased games through the store? Basically the shut down means that gamers can no longer buy new games or make in-game purchases or redeem their PSN wallet funds. However, gamers will still be able to redownload and play games that they had previously bought, access videos they previously purchased, and redeem game and PlayStation Plus vouchers.

The consoles themselves will remain unaffected so you can keep playing them as you did before, just that after those dates, you can’t buy anymore games. You will still be able to purchase games in their physical form assuming you can find them for sale.
