Not too long ago, there were rumors suggesting that Discord and Microsoft were in talks where Microsoft was apparently interested in acquiring the company. It made a lot of sense as to why Microsoft could be interested, especially since Discord is known as a platform gamers use to communicate, so acquiring them and integrating their services into the Xbox platform makes sense.

Those talks have since come to an end where Discord and Microsoft reportedly could not reach an agreement. However, if you’re curious as to how a Discord integration could look like on a console, Sony has the answer. This is because the company has announced that they have entered into a new partnership with Discord where the company’s services will be integrated into the PlayStation Network starting in 2022.

According to Sony’s announcement, “Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network. Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.”

It is possible that Microsoft and Discord could eventually reach a similar agreement without necessarily involving an acquisition, but for now, it looks like Sony will have the advantage.
