As some of you might have heard, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei left the company a while back. He later announced that he would be forming a new company called Nothing and that their first product will be a pair of earphones. For those looking forward to it, you’ll be pleased to learn that the company has since confirmed that the launch will take place in June.

The device in question will be called the Ear 1. Not much is known about it save for the potential look of the gadget in the image above. However, according to the announcement, “Design is still top secret but what we can tell you is that Ear 1 combines notes of transparency, iconic form, and refined functionality. It is the starting point that will define the artistry, confidence and craftsmanship that will carry our products and services for years to come.”

The post, written up by Pei himself, also addresses the question of why the company is choosing to launch earphones as their first product. According to Pei, “We like to immerse ourselves into a world of our choosing. And not have the world choose for us. But more than that, we believe the earphones market was begging for differentiation, a space where we can elevate design and deliver value from day one.”

It will be interesting to see what kind of earbuds it will look like and what kind of features it will have to make it stand out in the market, so check back with us next month if you’d like the details.
