If the rumors are to be believed, this year’s iPhone could finally see Apple introduce an iPhone with a 120Hz refresh rate. This is a big deal considering that many iPhone competitors in the Android space have managed to achieve this feat years ago. Now adding fuel to the fire is a new report claiming that Samsung will be supplying Apple with a component of the display.
According to reports out of Korea via TheElec, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is said to be supplying Apple with a rigid-flexible printed circuit board that will be used to help bring 120Hz refresh rates to the iPhone 13. The report claims that these components will be used in both the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, the higher-end models, while the lower-end iPhone 13 models will not come with a 120Hz refresh rate.
What’s interesting about this is that according to a report from DigiTimes last year, Samsung was apparently considering exiting the RFPCB market in 2021 due to “unfavorable factors” in both supply and demand. We’re not sure if that is still being planned, or if the company has decided that getting business from Apple will be enough to keep them around.
After all, Apple produces millions of iPhones a year, which means that millions of these components will be required. Apple’s new iPhone 13 is expected to launch later in the year around September, going back to its original launch schedule prior to the pandemic of 2020.
